Auberge Chez Ali

The traditional decor and lively entertainment give Auberge Chez Ali a lot of charm. It has a beautiful setting and a great atmosphere, with an authentic Moroccan feel that made the visit memorable. I really enjoyed my time there, and everything else was great. There are a couple of things that could be better. The service could use more professionalism, especially in how attentive and efficient the staff are. The morning coffee also felt a little below the quality of the rest of the place. A strong, good cup would be a much nicer way to start the day. Even so, it's worth visiting if you're after Moroccan culture in a vibrant setting.

The price was very reasonable, and we could even wash our clothes and hang them out on the roof. Our room was spacious and clean, and the children felt welcome, enjoying the garden and the Wi-Fi. Everyone on staff was friendly and welcoming, serving us delicious food even during Ramadan. We loved cooling off in the pool in the afternoon and spending time in the gardens. It was so calm and peaceful compared with the dry city. Thank you all :)

The garden is nice and the hotel staff were friendly, but the excursions were unreliable, unprofessional, and not worth the money. I wouldn't recommend them. We paid 450 euros for a package that was supposed to include one night in the desert, one hotel night, two breakfasts, two lunches, and two dinners. The agreement wasn't honored: we were charged extra for one lunch and one dinner, and only found out at checkout. Verbal agreements seem to mean nothing here, so get everything in writing. There wasn't enough water for our family of five on the desert trip, and we had to go thirsty. That's irresponsible and unacceptable. Breakfast in the desert was rushed, with pressure to leave straight away, which was very unpleasant. During the drives, loud, disturbing music played the whole time without regard for the guests. The guide couldn't introduce us to the desert's beauty and came across as an enthusiastic rally driver instead. At the very start of the trip in Zagora, he stocked up on alcohol, which felt highly inappropriate for a desert excursion. He was friendly on day one, then turned cold and silent the next day and killed the atmosphere.

The meals were enjoyable, and a local guide took us for an interesting walk through a nearby date plantation. The hotel is close to shops. It must have been glorious when it was new. Vines and plants screened the many individually designed rooms, giving them lots of privacy, and some had generous private balconies. At the back, a large courtyard surrounds the swimming pool. In the middle section, there is open air dining on one side and covered outdoor dining on the other.
