Boutique Hotel La Roche

The hotel is beautiful, right in the heart of Porto, with everything close enough to walk to. We had a room upgrade, maybe because it was my birthday, or maybe they just felt like it. Either way, it was a lovely surprise. Our room was spacious, fresh, and spotless, with careful cleaning. The staff were so friendly and ready to help with anything. Breakfast à la carte was delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. We also really enjoyed the well-kept spa and hammam, and all the amenities were provided, from razors and shampoos to creams and lotions. An amazing experience, worth every penny.

The people made this five-night stay so special. Every staff member we met was warm and went out of their way to help. I’ve never experienced hospitality like it. We had a huge, beautiful room that was kept spotless. The beach area was lovely and well-maintained, with the same excellent service from the bar and wait staff. The Espresso Martinis deserve a special mention. Breakfast was cooked fresh, and lunch was excellent too. We especially liked the shrimp Caesar and Thai steak salads. Montenegro stole our hearts. Tivat and the surrounding area were stunningly clean and easy to explore, and we didn’t want to leave. Hotel La Roche gave us memories we’ll treasure, and we can’t wait to come back.

La Roche has a stunning setting overlooking the bay, just minutes from Port Montenegro, with easy access to shopping, restaurants, and beautiful scenery. We paid £600 for one night in a two-bedroom suite, so we expected five-star quality. At first glance it looks like a high-end boutique hotel, but the upkeep didn’t match the price, and it fell short of what we expected. The rooftop pool has absolutely stunning views and was a real highlight, but parts of the surrounding deck were damaged and falling apart. The rooftop bar was closed, adding to the sense that the hotel was being allowed to decline. The outdoor beach and bar area is well placed and has lots of potential, but its worn decking needs replacing. The changing rooms were locked and the bar was closed, disappointing in warm weather with such a lovely setting. Our suite had plenty of space and should have been impressive, but some light switches were damaged or loose, and there was visible mould behind parts of the wallpaper. That’s a serious concern for a longer stay. We were there for just one night and didn’t complain, but we absolutely would have if staying longer. It’s a real shame, because with proper care, maintenance, investment, and attention to detail, La Roche could be excellent. For now, it doesn’t justify its luxury price.

The room we moved to, apartment 101, was comfortable, smelled fine, and had two bedrooms. Breakfast was lovely, and the location made it easy to walk to the marina, bars, and restaurants. We stayed one night in February, and the welcome at check-in was friendly. The first room, 103, was spacious with a nice view, but the sewer smell throughout was awful. There was also a mark on the ceiling by the air conditioner that looked like an old leak. We asked to change rooms because of the smell. We didn’t use the spa. The pool was closed, and the season and weather wouldn’t have let us use it anyway, though it looked like it would be nice in summer.
