It took two months in Madagascar, but we finally found somewhere with a hostel feel 🤩

The staff are fantastic, the food is good, and the location works really well. It’s a great first stop for meeting other backpackers. The only snag was the water, since I couldn’t get a shower, which would have been welcome after a long flight or a day around the city.

I felt safe and comfortable here, and everyone on staff was attentive and friendly. The hostel has a nice rhythm: lively and loud when it’s the right time for that, then calm when you want to relax. I wasn’t sure about Malagasy-Mexican food, but the zebu burrito won me over. Breakfast was good too.

It sits on a hill by the centre, close enough to downtown to stay connected, yet far enough away to feel peaceful. I stayed in the separate high house up the stairs, which was clean, rustic, and very authentic. The staff were nice, and they can arrange a good local breakfast.

The rooms are clean and decent, and the atmosphere is relaxed but lively. Food and drinks are really good, too. The friendly staff are happy to help you figure out ways to explore this unique country. For me, it’s easily the best backpacker option in Tana. Wouldn’t be surprised if it tops Lonely Planet’s recommendation next edition 😉
