The rooftop was excellent, breakfast was good, and it was good value for money. It's close to Independence Avenue, which is listed twice among the positives. The lady at reception was very sweet and even offered me hot water for coffee. The owner clearly pays attention to reviews and always replies, so thank you for appreciating feedback. There were some real drawbacks, though. After sunset the neighborhood gets very dark, so be careful. There's no tea, coffee, or water in the room, no AC or heater, no hot water in the washbasin or in the morning, and the washroom is very old. The hand shower leaked, the blanket was cheap, and the place looks old. Staff also asked for money to bring my bags to the room.

At Sole Hotel I found a comfortable, safe, and convenient place to stay. It seems suited to either a work trip or a holiday, with what you need for a pleasant visit. I recommend it and look forward to coming back.

The reception staff helped us find a nice pub and club, and we had a great night out. When we got back, we discovered water stations on every floor with bottles to take to the room. You can also ask staff for more tea, coffee, or milk if you run out, and room service arrived in 20 minutes. It really felt like they'd thought of everything to make the stay nice. Our room was lovely and super clean, with the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. I loved the pillows, and the bathroom and shower were very clean too. We were so happy with our stay that I was actually sad to leave.

The rooms were nice, and the hot shower worked well. Breakfast had the widest selection of all the hotels I stayed at in Madagascar. The hotel itself had a bit of a brothel-like feel, and maybe it was a Friday night, but the surrounding streets were full of women asking if I wanted a good time. I’d paid 50,000 Ar for a 7 pm late checkout. In the afternoon, someone called my room and tried to explain something in Malagasy, so I went to reception. The women there said I needed to check out because traffic was bad and I had to hurry to the airport. I said my flight was after midnight and asked if traffic could really be that bad. She kept insisting until I mentioned I’d paid for a late checkout or day room. Then the traffic problem suddenly disappeared, and staying until 7 pm was no issue. :)

Our room’s safe had dead batteries. We asked to have them changed: one person said he’d bring new ones, then never came back. After an hour we called reception, and three more people showed up with a jar of over 20 master keys for us to try one by one. None worked. We waited another hour before someone finally brought batteries. We could have saved more than two hours by buying them ourselves. The room was okay by Malagasy standards. Breakfast was basic, with eggs available but no fresh juice.
