Lunch was so-so and overpriced, and then I was told I needed to order dessert to use the pool. I would have spent more on drinks over the afternoon anyway, but that didn’t count. I’d planned to read by the pool after lunch, so the whole thing was a huge disappointment. Service was okay until my waitress finished her shift without telling me and left me without the bill.

I haven’t stayed here, but I called recently to ask whether non-guests could pay to use the fitness room. The receptionist said that would be fine, so I drove across the island to the resort. When I arrived, I was told non-guests weren’t allowed in after all. A straightforward apology for giving me the wrong answer would have been fair.

The cake was good, but lunch was a letdown. We ordered gratin aux legumes, and what arrived wasn’t gratin at all. We sent it back and complained, but the chef never came to speak with us. We still had to pay for the dishes we didn’t eat, and it was quite expensive. For a hotel with such a lovely sea view, that was deceptive.

The airport pickup was a real luxury: a brand-new, air-conditioned people carrier, with bottled water and cool towels provided. The place itself is beautiful and new on Nosy Be, with great attention to detail in the room, restaurant, and pool. All the staff were superb. One thing to know, their credit card machine wasn’t working, so we could pay in cash or by electronic transfer.
