We were asked to pay more than the amount agreed over the phone, with 20% added because they said we had a better room. There was also a tourist tax we hadn't been told about, and they gave us no receipt for the payment.

Bring your food along, since the closest shop is in Berovo. At Motel Bistra, though, you can get straight into the surrounding nature. We visited in winter, and it seems like summer would be magical too. With so little traffic, you can walk west to the Berovo Lake dam, or head about 5 km west to Aurora. Klepalo is roughly 9 km east, near the national border. The room was warm and clean, with fresh towels, a stove, fridge and sink. It wasn't especially roomy, but the bathroom had hot water whenever we needed it. Some rooms share a wall with the communal space, which has a kitchen, fireplace and dining tables. There's also a covered outdoor area with tables, and parking is easy to reach. The region's fresh air is a real highlight, along with the white cheeses and pastramalia, the Macedonian meat pizza. On the way to the dam, there are roadside stalls selling honey, fruit and berry jams, herbal elixirs and other natural goods. We had a good stay.
A lovely spot surrounded by unspoiled nature.
