VIP Hotel Berovo - Apartments

The location and the view were both great, and the owners were very polite. But the room wasn't what the photos led me to expect: I'd pictured a double bed and a sofa table, but instead it was packed with beds and had hardly any room to move. The power went out twice. To fix it, they shut off the hot water boilers, so we were left without hot water. Breakfast was included in the price, but we didn't get any the next day and had to leave early to find food. The place has a great setting, but the rooms and service only get two stars from me.

Clean sheets and a good location with a nice view were the bright spots, but we had several problems. The air conditioning wouldn't start on the first night because of a filter issue. On the third day, in the middle of winter, we had no hot water and were told to wait 3-4 hours. For a hotel that calls itself three stars, the breakfast was extremely poor, with very little choice. The toilet seat was completely broken, too. They also hadn't told us that the water was for technical use only and wasn't safe to drink. A disappointing stay.

The hotel's best feature is where it sits above the lake. The view is spectacular, but the rest of the experience was quite terrible. I had been told my room would have a small balcony; instead, there was only a little window facing a walkway. It was a shame to be in the mountains without a balcony or even a shared table area where guests could enjoy the view. There weren't any tables outside, either. Breakfast was okay, but the staff said it started at 8:30, and on our second morning the restaurant didn't open until 8:45. It felt very inhospitable. There were spiders in the bathroom. I understand that can happen in a forest, but the huge web looked like it had been there for weeks. The yard was full of wood, old furniture and rubbish, like something from a horror movie. I know it's a three-star hotel and didn't expect much, but they could at least have put in some effort to make the stay more welcoming. Next time I'd do more research before booking.

The view was amazing, the rooms were clean and breakfast was nice. The older couple hosting us were helpful and kind, but their son was very rude. I don't know his name. Aside from that, we had a nice time. They could do better on the standards and attitude if they want the business to grow.
