Boutique Hotel Rose Diplomatique

The room was quiet, which was a nice benefit of staying outside central Skopje. A few good restaurants are within walking distance, and we had dinner at Dukat. The furniture was a little dated, though it fit the theme. The beds were fairly comfortable, and the A/C was a big plus. The toilet paper holder and hand towel ring had come off the wall. Breakfast was good, with the usual Macedonian hotel choices: bread, tomatoes, feta, cucumber, yogurt, and meat. The hotel arranged an airport ride for 16 euro, but badly underestimated the travel time. They said to leave at noon for our 13:00 flight, so we chose 11:30 instead. It was Monday, with construction and traffic, and we got there only 25 minutes before departure. It was stressful, and we were the last to board. Don't rely on the hotel's advice about when to leave for the airport.

The rooms are the standout here, they’re all suites and really spacious. It feels like the place may once have been a diplomatic hotel. The family who run it have helpful staff, and the rooms are clean. You can walk into the city, with several Kaffanas nearby. I could see this becoming my regular place to stay in Skopje.

The complimentary breakfast was a real highlight, with Macedonian meats, cheeses, pastries and a pot of Turkish coffee or tea. Our room was comfortable enough, with decent twin beds and a standard European en suite bathroom. The staff welcomed us warmly, spoke excellent English and offered to take the two of us to Skopje airport the next morning for €16. The hotel is on a one-way street, about 10 minutes by taxi from the Skopje bus station. It’s not close to many landmarks, though there are a few restaurants nearby. We had dinner at Dukat, two blocks away. A decent place to stop in Skopje.

It’s a quiet spot, though a bit far from the city center. There are free parking spaces, and the staff were so friendly and tried to help. Breakfast was good too.
