Hotel Square

Darko was really helpful, and I got all the information I needed before checking in. I also met his father, who was a nice guy. The hotel is within walking distance of the main square, shops, restaurants, coffee shops, and a supermarket. My room was clean, and the location made my time in Skopje great.

The location was excellent, and the dining/viewing area had a fantastic view over Macedonian Square. The room was as expected for the price, but the hygiene problems and what happened after checkout outweighed those positives. The shower basin had an unpleasant stain, and the room gave a general impression of poor cleanliness. I also came across six cockroaches during my two-night stay, as shown in photos 1-6 and video 1, which strongly suggested an infestation. Hotels.com reviews mention similar cockroach problems. There was no receptionist on site, so I couldn't report it in person. After I posted a review, someone claiming to represent the hotel contacted me and offered a refund, which I accepted. More than a week passed without payment or a clear resolution, so I followed up. The messages then became disturbing and aggressive, including calling me a “little cockroach” and suggesting we would “meet each other in the UK.” I’m not including screenshots because of Google’s review guidelines, but I found the messages deeply unprofessional and concerning. In short, there were cockroaches, no receptionist, a refund that was promised but never delivered, and inappropriate, threatening messages from hotel staff. I can't recommend this hotel.

The owner was pleasant to communicate with and replied quickly on WhatsApp, and the internet worked absolutely reliably. The place is right in the city center, though it feels more like rooms on one floor than a proper hotel. The well-known view in the photos is from the glass-enclosed terrace at the end of the hallway, not from the rooms. The decor is old and worn, and the bathroom isn't very inviting, but for the price it was okay. Remember to switch on the boiler to heat the water. I didn't realize at first that the water needed to be heated ahead of time. I'd recommend it for a short stay only.

I couldn't bring myself to stay. The smell was unbearable, the showers were filthy, and the air conditioner looked older than I am. Worst hotel I've ever seen.
