Gardenia Hotel & Spa

The restaurant was another frustration. I waited a long time without anyone coming to my table, so I went to the bar and ordered a pizza. I didn’t try the pool, SPA, or gym, though I’ve seen plenty of negative reviews about those too. The room itself was in poor condition. The carpet was stained, spider webs hung in the corners, plaster was crumbling around the windows, and one window had no handle. The shower drain plug was broken and filthy, and the bathrobes were worn and torn. The room door handle was barely attached. Behind the TV, the LED strip was held together with wire, and the loose socket cover left live wires exposed, which felt dangerous. The photos on Booking don’t reflect the rooms I saw. This place claims to be a 5 star hotel, but the condition and safety issues made that hard to take seriously. Charging premium prices for this quality is outrageous. Avoid it if you expect even basic 5 star standards. See the attached pictures.

The accommodation itself was completely okay, and so was the location, but I couldn’t sleep because of a wedding party right under our window. At first the noise was tolerable, then it got unbearable, even with the windows closed and curtains drawn. There was yelling, screaming, singing, and drumming, not just music. We called reception around midnight. We’d held off because we didn’t want to seem hysterical, but they said they couldn’t do anything and that it would be another hour before they turned it off. I wouldn’t call that a good experience.

The room was dirty, with old snacks that looked to be half a year old, and the service from the woman at the counter was really bad. We visit Macedonia often, but we won’t be coming back to this hotel.

The employees were polite, kind, and very helpful, and the location is good, not far from Veles center. Our room was good, breakfast had a nice variety, and the spa was very nice, with indoor and outdoor pools, a jacuzzi, sauna, and UV sauna. Restaurants are generally incredibly cheap too. We stayed one night while passing through MK from Greece. For the price, including breakfast, the quality was amazing. It’s rare to find a 5* hotel that cheaply. It isn’t top of the top in every detail, as some photos show, and I may be picky about that, but it’s fair to expect more from a 5* hotel. Still, we had a very, very good stay. Recommended.
