We booked two rooms for a family trip. The staff were courteous and worked hard, though they looked tired and perhaps there weren’t enough of them. Breakfast had little variety and didn’t taste as good as we’d hoped. The hotel’s hilltop spot near Kalaw clock tower is its strongest point, with a pleasant view over town and Kalaw Railway Station only a few hundred meters away. The café’s coffee was good too. Our ground-floor rooms, though, felt damp and dated. We could hear corridor conversations clearly, and the Wi-Fi signal was there but the connection was practically unusable. The rooms and facilities need work to make the price feel justified.

The mountain view from the room was perfect, which is why I’d been so excited about booking two nights. The room itself was a letdown once I got in after check-in time. The facilities didn’t seem good enough for the high price. The TV wouldn’t work. When I mentioned it at reception, they swapped it for a smaller one from another room. The refrigerator also wasn’t working, so I asked for a replacement. Worst of all, the water bottle they served had a very dirty lid. After all that, I stayed just one night and moved to another hotel. I hope they look after the old equipment and upgrade it.

The buffet breakfast was the standout for me, with lots of tasty Shan dishes, and it felt worth the price. The hotel is in a cozy spot, with plenty of parking and a swimming pool that has a nice view. Our room was spacious and clean. The staff were very polite and helpful, and I’d like to come back.

The restaurant is a pleasant place for breakfast or dinner, and the food at breakfast was decent. They didn’t refill it consistently when items ran out, though. Staff were polite and helpful, but didn’t seem very alert or well trained. There were lots of stray dogs, and their barking was noisy at night. I’d rate the hotel good overall.
