Mandalay Swan

One of the oldest hotels in MDY, with prices starting at 25,000 kyats. The rooms are spacious but old-fashioned, and the 2hp air-con can make you freeze. You can swim until 8 pm. I only gave it one star because I felt scared in the cheapest room, 😂😂😂😂 not because of its condition, but because of the rooms around me.

The toilet and sink in my room were faulty, so I had to move. A window had been left slightly open and unlocked, and those infamous mosquitoes got in. Housekeeping should have checked the room properly. At checkout, reception also forgot to give our IDs back.

There's plenty of parking, and it's easy to get to along the beautiful moat. The large room also makes this a good place for meetings, sharing educational ideas, or holding a farewell event.

My first stay at Mandalay Swan was after a rough time in Mindat, Southern Chin State. My Chin friends wanted to find a good place for me before I headed back to Yangon via Mandalay Airport. They asked locals and checked three hotels, but none seemed good enough. At Mandalay Swan, they looked around and spoke with reception, then told me they weren't going to find a better option. They were right. The four of us stayed two nights, and the hotel was wonderful, with great staff. When I came back to Myanmar early this year, we flew from Yangon to Mandalay on our way to Chin State and stayed at the Swan Hotel again. Four of us plan to return to Myanmar in late June. Two of my Australian friends haven't been before, so I'm taking them to Southern Chin State via Mandalay, with another stay at the Swan Hotel.
