The staff were helpful throughout, and the location made it easy to get to Mandalay’s most interesting sights. We enjoyed our stay in January, though our first room was cramped enough that we couldn’t lay both suitcases down to unpack. It also had a very high step, more than a foot, into the shower area, and my partner tripped over it at night. I think the room’s layout may have been affected by being next to the lift shaft. Once another room opened up on our second night, staff moved all our belongings to a much larger, better room at no extra charge.

The breakfast room on the top floor has a great view, and there’s a very large car park behind the hotel. The rooms are quite small and tide, though. The staff were kind, polite, hardworking, and professional in how they served us.

The staff are friendly and very polite, and they do their best to help with things like early check-in or car hire. The hotel is reasonably priced and close to the golden palace and several restaurants. Our standard room was right by the lobby, so it was noisy, and the hotel needs major renovations, including new carpets. Breakfast has a Chinese theme, which got tiring after a few days.

We liked using this place as a base for exploring Mandalay, and I’d recommend staying here. It’s a mid-range budget hotel, clean, with friendly staff and a great breakfast. From levels 3 and 4 there are views of the Mandalay Palace walls and Mandalay Hill. We were on level 1 and found mould in the bathroom, though that may only be an issue on that floor. Breakfast was completely gone by 9am. The hotel tours and taxis are expensive, so shop around. Rainforest restaurant’s owner offers decent tour deals. Also, the entrance to the Mandalay palace is 2.5kms away, and entry is only from the east side.

The room smelled dusty, and the facilities weren’t satisfactory. There wasn’t even an instant coffeemix packet. The bathroom taps didn’t work properly either.
