The new staff member was trying hard to please me, but I can't say much else positive about my stay. The rooms were okay and had nice furniture with plenty of storage, but the hotel didn't seem well managed. Hot water was unreliable, and the toilet had been broken since my first day. A plumber came twice and still didn't fix it. I found a large piece of metal scouring sponge in my breakfast. The food was all Chinese, very salty and oily, and there wasn't much variety. I specifically ordered scrambled eggs from the menu but got fried bread with just a thin layer of egg spread over it. Restaurant staff spoke limited English, making it hard to order, and they use MSG. The owner is Chinese and takes large Chinese tour groups, which meant noisy mornings with shouting and doors slamming. After I'd paid for a month and moved in, I was told two days later there had been a booking mistake: someone had specifically requested my room, so I'd have to leave for five days and then return. Every advertised bicycle was broken when I asked about renting one. The pool was too dirty to swim in and had only three chairs in a cramped area. For the price, there are plenty of other choices in Mandalay where I could get a working toilet, warm water, and much better service.

The staff were generally courteous and very helpful, which was a bright spot, though communication was difficult except with two young men who worked at different times. The location is okay, near the Palace and Mandalay Hill, but a bit far from the town centre and other attractions. There are a few restaurants nearby, most more expensive than elsewhere, though Container 65 is about a five-minute walk around the back of the hotel and is an exception. Our room had a No Smoking sign and we'd requested a non-smoking room, but it smelled of cigarettes whenever we came back in. Breakfast was also disappointing at first. We arrived more than an hour before it was due to finish, but the buffet trays only had little piles left and there were just three pieces of bread. Staff said that was all, including the bread, though one person did go out and buy more. The next days were better, with mostly Asian noodles and rice, plus eggs. The pool was the worst we'd seen in decades of travel. The water was extremely cloudy and green, and it seemed more like a lack of pool-care knowledge than anything else, but it wasn't inviting. Management has a lot to learn about serving tourists from other parts of the world, so I can't recommend the hotel at this point.

I spent seven days at Hotel Yadanar Oo and had a wonderful holiday. It's peaceful, quiet, and away from traffic noise. My room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the prices were affordable. Staff greeted me whenever they saw me, and everyone was friendly with excellent service. They accept cards, USD, and local cash. They can also help arrange coach buses to Yangon or other places, and some staff speak English if you run into a language barrier. The hotel is conveniently close to Mandalay palace, markets, shopping malls, and restaurants. You can rent a motorcycle or bicycle for a cheap rate. The swimming pool at the back was clean. There's also the brolly sky bar on the third floor, with a nice evening view of the pagoda on the hill. The food was tasty and affordable, including the alcohol. Breakfast is provided, and the menu has seafood, chicken, beef, and pork, so it's not halal for Muslims. There are Western, local, Thai, and Chinese dishes, with neat presentation and generous portions. The restaurant closes at 2230HRS, and they sometimes have promotions like Happy Hours. I'd happily stay at the same hotel again. Cheers!

The rooftop restaurant was great for food and a drink, with lovely views of the temple on the hill. The hotel was fairly clean, though it smelled strongly of disinfectant. Management were very unfriendly, but the other staff were awesome.

The rooms were clean and nice, and there's a rooftop pool and bar. The beer was cold and the food tasty. It's easy to walk around from this good location, and staff can also arrange taxis or tours for you.
