The hilltop view was great, with ice-capped mountains in the distance, and the staff were so friendly they made me feel at home. November to March is the best time to go. I’d have given five stars if not for the bathroom. Check that the hot water is working before you bathe. An automatic pump would be a good improvement.

The staff were kind and kept trying to make the place nicer, but the rooms were cold, damp, and very dark. Despite the very high prices, this place is really just a trekking house by name. The wealthy older guests here don’t come for trekking. I know finding a place to stay in Putao is still difficult, but if you have another option, take it.

It’s a simple hotel, with no TV, air conditioning, or refrigerator, but you get to enjoy nature in Putao. The food was great, breakfast was good, and it’s close to the local morning market. A great hotel.
