Pleasure View Hotel

For an affordable stay where you can accept a lot of compromises, this place may exceed your expectations. The facilities are kept in reasonable condition, and cleanliness is good considering the pollution around it. Staff can respond to basic English commands. It's not perfect, but the value is good.

The staff are very friendly and do what they can to accommodate you. We stayed a little over a week and negotiated a great deal. The place gives you a decent room for a decent price. On weekdays, breakfast is fried rice and an egg, or toast and an egg, with coffee or tea. At weekends it's the same food, served buffet-style for you to help yourself.

I picked this place for a late lunch after sightseeing. The fresh, very clean interior caught my eye, and the A/C was working well. I had tom yum soup and chicken with fried noodles from a decent menu, and paid about Kyat 8.500, which seemed very reasonable. The restaurant was empty, probably because it was an unusual time to eat. It’s right next to the hotel with the same name.

The staff were friendly and spoke good English, and the location is handy for places like Kandawgyi Lake and Shwedagon. I stayed because it fit my budget, though I’d think twice about returning. There’s no nearby mini mart open 24/7, so getting food at night is basically impossible. My room was average, a little small, and didn’t feel clean. There were lots of mosquitoes. The sink took two complaints to get fixed, while the awful TV reception and the aircon were still not sorted after two complaints each. The aircon seemed long overdue for servicing and sometimes spat out ice. Breakfast was the same choice of fried rice or American breakfast day after day, with a limited buffet on Fridays.
