The Grand Hill Hotel

Good value for the price, and there are lots of grocery stores within walking distance. The staff are nice, and the room was spacious. The gym is pretty basic, but the treadmill did the job. There’s a bus stop nearby that takes you to the center. The TV was unreliable, though, and the network cut out several times.

The rooms are still acceptable, though the place looks better in photos. Service, on the other hand, was basically nonexistent. The TV didn’t work, and even after I told the staff, it never got fixed. Nobody answered the room service line or the front desk when I called. I needed utensils for some food, so I went down to reception. They told me to get them from the buffet upstairs. I went up, but it was locked. After coming all the way back down to explain, I was told to try another restaurant on a different floor. Seriously? Being told to fetch things myself was rude enough, and then I was sent up and down the building several times. I got so frustrated that I just left to avoid making a scene. This happened at 9 p.m. on 16/09, with a male receptionist. If that’s the service standard, they might as well call this a self-service hotel. Please do something about staff like that. The only person who gave us great service was a female receptionist/manager at the front desk. I really appreciate her and want to thank her.

We had the junior suite at a good price and felt it was worth it. The bathroom was spacious with plenty of toiletries, though the shower area especially needed brighter lighting. The bed was comfortable, and several windows brought in lots of light. The curtains were great, and there was a could and a kitchenette, both of which we liked. Breakfast had a great variety of food, pastries, and drinks. There’s also a nice cafe and boutique cashmere shop in the lobby, while the upstairs restaurant stays open late and serves great food with city views. Getting around was the downside: it’s too far to walk to the city, and traffic in Ulaanbatar is bad, making taxis difficult. I’d worried about the quality when booking, but the hotel was really comfortable and nice, and I was pleasantly surprised.

We had such a good stay at Grand Hill. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and really looked after us. The food was amazing, especially the tenderloin steaks, which were incredible and such a good price. They’d run out by the time we left. Thanks to everyone at Grand Hill.
