Town Yard Hostel

This cozy hostel is run by a friendly Mongolian family with great English. I enjoyed hearing the older hosts talk about Mongolia, they had lots of interesting insight. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen had everything needed, and hygiene wasn't an issue. There weren't enough power outlets, so extension cords are needed in the dorm, and the WiFi was patchy in some areas. Google Maps gets the location right, but its suggested route is off. Go along the parallel street instead.

The area felt safe and was easy to explore on foot, and there's a grocery store nearby with lots of food options. It's right by the famous Gandan temple. The rates were very reasonable, and a simple breakfast was included. They can arrange a taxi to the airport too. Don't miss the food truck by the Gandan entrance, on the right side of the gates, the buuz and Mongolian tea are delicious. Great value and clean, highly recommend!

I really liked the warm, welcoming feel here. It's set in a pretty courtyard in a lovely neighborhood with temples and cultural sights, and the hosts were helpful enough to arrange an early morning taxi for me. The hostel was spotless, with reliable fast WiFi and a big kitchen where I could relax, work, or cook. Breakfast was good and hot, and the showers were clean and nicely decorated. My room stayed cool and fresh for sleeping even though it was hot outside. I had a good stay here and recommend it.

We had a clean, cozy twin room with its own bathroom, and the convenient location worked well for our trip. The host also arranged a three-day tour, which was a wonderful experience. There are several appealing tours at reasonable prices. I'd love to come back next time.
