Carayou Hotel & Spa

There are two nice pools at the hotel, plus a small beach, and other beautiful beaches are only a few minutes away on foot. Breakfast was good too, with plenty of local fruit. We had a top floor room looking out over the beach and sea, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The room’s interior is getting old, but the shower was one of the best we’ve had, with strong pressure and lots of hot water. During our stay, the electricity gave us trouble and the WiFi kept cutting out.

We were there for a week and came away happy. The buffet was a real plus, with lots of tasty choices at every meal on our full pension plan. The fruit each day was especially good, fresh and really sweet, like watermelon, pineapple and oranges. The hotel is in a convenient spot, close to the little port where you can catch the shuttle to Fort de France or find excursions. It’s no more than a 10-minute walk. The room itself was basic and dated, with well-worn furniture, but the daily cleaning was thorough and got rid of the sand. There’s a small private beach with some waves, so keep an eye on the kids.

The food was a pretty basic buffet. Breakfast was made in large batches, then left to cool, so it ended up stodgy and not hot. The bacon looked awful. Drinks on the all-inclusive plan were also very limited, and the local bars and restaurants were much better. TUI put on entertainment, but it was aimed entirely at French speakers, so we were left out. The pool was a nice place to relax, though one gate was closed and getting to the bar meant walking all the way around and up the stairs by the restaurant. I stayed four nights in June 2023. The rooms need updating, with no fridge or coffee facilities. The central aircon gave little control beyond the fan speed. The receptionist at check-in was very unhelpful. I speak basic French, but got no help understanding the process.

My wife and I stayed at this wonderful hotel for our Honeymoon, and we’re very grateful for how warmly the staff looked after us. It had a nice family feel, and the beach area was great for snorkeling. There’s also a pier where you can fish. I’d suggest exploring the point across the little harbor next door. The farther you wander, the more interesting things you come across. Wear shoes.
