La Pagerie

The location was amazing. From here we could easily walk to Anse Mitan, our favourite, or Pointe Du Bout beach. The rooms were clean and had a great mini fridge with a little freezer, a kettle, a small coffee machine and a sink. We also loved our balcony overlooking the Creole Village. The pool was lovely, though most days we went to the beach or on an excursion. We’d just returned from a week at La Pagerie, and had an amazing trip. The breakfast was great, though it would be even better if it ran until 11 am. Drinks can be expensive all over the island, including here, so a happy hour at the pool or lobby bar once or twice a day would be nice. We enjoyed the evening entertainment, and all the performers we managed to see were great. But the hotel should advertise it more clearly, since it was hard to know what was on and when. It often clashed with dinner, so a mid-afternoon pool event might be a good change. There was even a free floral design workshop on Monday that we didn’t know about. Luckily we stumbled on it and had a beautiful arrangement in our room all week. Our room had a strange smell, possibly from the plumbing, but they fixed it as soon as we complained.

The hotel is cute, but the service was unacceptable. Check-in was at 3pm, yet our room wasn’t ready until 4.20 pm. At 3.30pm they said it was ready and sent us up. We found dirt everywhere and towels on the floor. A cleaner told us it wasn’t ready and asked us to wait 5 minutes. We ended up waiting another 50 minutes, with no apology or even water offered. We asked to book the restaurant for dinner and were told it was fully booked for our whole stay. At 9pm, while it was supposed to close at 10pm, we called room service. The kitchen staff said they were closing down. I called reception and explained, asking them to make sure we got something to eat. We would have accepted anything, but they said it wasn’t possible.

The inner garden felt like a tropical oasis, full of plants and birds, on the island of birds. The restaurant served great European dishes as well as lovely local food. One colleague had very special dietary requirements, and the staff did their best to accommodate them. The personnel were all very pleasant, and the hotel suited our business stay well. It would also work for families, solo travelers or small groups. The different rooms, from twins for two to rooms for four, were all comfortable and pleasant, and extremely clean. I had an amazing time there. Totally recommend!

The pool and bar were great, with fantastic drinks, and the murals gave the whole stay a perfect tropical island feel. There’s a duty free store right on the compound, plus restaurants within walking distance. Check out La Annexe. The rooms were great too. This hotel is BEAUTIFUL, and if you’re looking for somewhere to stay in Point Du Bout, you’ve found it.
