Luna Holiday Complex

My partner and I are staying at Luna Hotel Complex now, and it's been a fantastic stay so far. The room is comfortable, clean, and well kept, and the food is delicious with plenty of variety. The staff are amazing, always smiling, friendly, and ready to help. I'm still here and already know I'd gladly come back. Highly recommend!

We came in the off season while refurbishment was underway. Reception was shut, there was painting everywhere, signs barring entry in some areas, and some room signs were out of date. The staff did their best to keep things going, though, and welcomed us warmly when we arrived for a midnight check-in without any fuss. Their little side-door reception and corridor lobby, where people sat for drinks and entertainment, impressed me for an off-season setup. The staff were sweet and polite throughout, nothing seemed too much trouble. Our self-catering room had a shower room, then a combined bedroom, kitchen, and living space, plus a small balcony with two chairs. The bathroom was a decent size, but needs updating: plaster was missing around the door frame, the shower took a long time to change temperature, and there was no shelf for toiletries. The kitchen had a two-ring induction hob and extractor. The hob worked, but the extractor didn't, and with no lids for the pans, steam filled the room unless we opened the door. The fridge didn't cool food even after adjusting the settings, so it needs replacing. There was a mini oven/microwave but no instructions. Everything was set up for three people because the sofa converts to another bed. The beds felt like they needed replacing as I could feel the springs, but I slept well. There was a free safe in the wardrobe and only one spare pillow. We could hear the neighbours, so I wouldn't recommend it for light sleepers. There are no washing machines in the apartments, but reception can arrange an outside laundry company to wash your clothes. The outdoor pool was naturally closed in February, but the views from up there are amazing. The bar was closed and sunbeds were ready for summer. There's a small heated indoor pool, just 1.1 metre deep, with a separate baby section and an internal push-button jacuzzi. The terrace was closed, and though the big glass doors open in summer, their bottoms were covered in thick green mould. There’s a gym on the lower ground floor, where you need to sign in and out, and a very good, well-stocked supermarket below the building, selling everything from postcards to bigilla. The hotel is at the bottom of a big hill, with the village at the top, so it won't suit anyone with mobility issues. At the bottom of the street there's the sea, a little museum, and a very expensive bar, restaurant, shop, and gelateria. The sea view is lovely, but the walk up to the village is a factor. We ate one meal there, a gluten-free pizza and a ham and mozzarella salad with two Diet Cokes, for E37. That seemed expensive but average for the area. The salad was great, while the pizza was awful, the base tasted like burnt cake. A birthday party was going on and children were running around, but staff told them off and eventually sectioned off that part of the restaurant to keep them away from diners. Good to see a proactive response. The bar sells cans of Stowford and Hedgehog as its dry cider options, with sweet ciders too. Would I come back? I suppose if it were super cheap, or once refurbishment is finished, sure.

The hotel itself is terrific, and the staff are great. On Fridays and Saturdays there's entertainment, and Kurt, a young entertainer, had an incredible voice. A decent, handy food shop is nearby, but that's the only one. The road outside the hotel is shit. We had to walk over a kilometer one way to get a bus anywhere, or walk two kilometers uphill to reach Mellieha.

The staff were so friendly and helpful that we couldn't fault the service. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a small kitchenette that had a fridge, sink, microwave, and other basics. It also had a little balcony, but unfortunately the view was very poor, facing another balcony. We liked the rooftop pool and restaurant, and there was another pool downstairs for families. The main restaurant by the pool had a good range of food and drinks, all very good, though the plates were always cold and our food cooled down quickly. The hotel is near a nice beach, with other restaurants and an ice cream parlour nearby. We were very happy with the hotel and enjoyed our stay.
