The Coleridge

We slept really comfortably, and it was quiet at night despite the hotel's central position. The rooms are lovely and well decorated, and the breakfast buffet was more than ample. Maja at reception was charming and incredibly helpful, with lots of great advice. It's a small hotel right in the centre of Valletta, and we'd book it again without hesitation if we returned.

The location is very good, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Still, I'd call this a hostel rather than a hotel. The rooms are spacious but a little dingy and depressing, and breakfast is very basic, served in a damp, windowless cellar.

The refund is still outstanding after six months. I called the hotel twice, and they kept saying it would take time. Booking.com told me the hotel had never submitted a request to refund the cancellation fee. We paid 108€ for one night but didn't stay, after the room turned out to be nothing like the picture. It had no proper window or daylight, felt like a cave, and was damp and wet, with bad air quality and mould in the bathroom. We left for another hotel because it was unacceptable. The receptionist told us to cancel through booking.com and said we wouldn't be charged a cancellation fee. The hotel had bad reviews before, so I'm not surprised they changed the name. I'll be back to Malta again.

Maja even put together a delicious breakfast for our early flight home, which was such a thoughtful touch. That really summed up how helpful everyone was. The receptionist welcomed us the next day, checked how our first night had gone, and asked what we wanted to see in Valetta before getting us a map. She was lovely and couldn't have done more for us. We arrived very late after our flight and were able to get in with a pin and an envelope containing our key and useful details. The instructions for the TV, coffee machine, and heating were simple, but a nice thing to have. Our room was gorgeous and comfortable, with air conditioning we really appreciated, and it was cleaned to a very high standard every day. There were also far more TV channels than we expected. We only managed breakfast once because Malta has so much to see and we were busy, but it was exceptional, with great coffee. The attendant was friendly and helpful, and everything was still fresh even though we arrived near the end of breakfast. We stayed five nights at the end of May and had a fantastic time. We'd definitely recommend The Coleridge and plan to come back. ❤️
