Harbour Lights Seafront Penthouse by Getaways Malta

Communication and service from Getaways Malta Ruth and Alessandro were excellent from beginning to end, and they were always reachable on WhatsApp. The apartment had everything we needed, with a great bay view. There’s a bus stop outside and some nice restaurants within walking distance. We stayed a week in early November and loved that this part of St Paul’s is less touristy. We love Malta, its people, and its history, so we’ll be back.

The balcony view was stunning, and street noise was barely noticeable with the windows shut, so it didn’t bother us. The apartment was comfortable, spacious, and well equipped. We were also given a travel crib, baby bathtub, and high chair when we asked, which helped a lot. The staff were always available and very helpful, offering family-friendly ideas for attractions and excursions with a small child. It’s a great base for exploring Malta. We spent a week here and had a wonderful time.

We stayed five nights on the first floor. The beautiful balcony view was the main reason we booked. The kitchen had what we needed to cook, buses from right below the building could take us around the island, and the staff were friendly and answered our questions. But this apartment has nothing to do with five stars. On the first night we were bitten by bed bugs and couldn’t sleep because we were itching all over, including our heads. I washed the sheets the next day using the washing machine, but the same thing happened on the following nights. We didn’t want to use the second room because it had two small single beds for children, and I didn’t want to sleep on the sofa bed because of my back. We were exhausted and upset by the rashes and itching, and I couldn’t bring myself to tell the friendly team at the time. When we got home, a doctor confirmed the bites were from bed bugs. I later contacted the owners, suggested they check the mattress because so many people sleep in that bed, and they became defensive. They won’t accept responsibility. The place is very basic and poor value at €1 335 for five nights, and you have to be careful about water and electricity. They even sent a picture of their energy meter, something I’ve never seen in all my travels. Their response to my complaint shocked me, it was very unprofessional and made it seem like they were only there to make money. The bathroom is tiny and mouldy. I wish people would tell the whole truth about places like this, it would help others before they book.
