The balcony opens off a huge living room, which also has a TV, good free Wi-Fi and an extra single bed. I was surprised by how much space there was for one person: the bedroom, bathroom and shower area were all roomy, with space for a washing machine and ironing board. The kitchen had a fridge, two gas burners, microwave, toaster and kettle. Great value, and the bus stop is just a five-minute walk away, with plenty of buses along the west coast.

Getting around calls for a motorbike, which the owner can rent you for €15 a day for a 125cc. The house is quiet, the rooms are clean, and a young local man manages it. It's well located for Le Morne. I'd recommend it to couples or friends who'd rather skip the usual beachfront resorts, which don't have much connection to Mauritian life.
