The staff were consistently polite and obliging, and we appreciated that. Still, this visit to Hotel Les Cocotiers was a real disappointment, especially since we've stayed before and had better experiences. It may have been our last chance for our whole family to holiday together, so it hurts that the trip fell so far short. Sadly, this is likely our last stay here. On Saturday evening, a private event took over the main dining area and hotel guests were moved upstairs. Two people in our group had mobility issues and couldn't get to the alternative dining space, so they had to eat alone in their room. It was upsetting and felt badly handled. There was water leaking and flooding on the balcony and in the bathroom. At times, drips kept falling while we were using the toilet, which was uncomfortable and unacceptable. There was also a persistent unpleasant smell around the resort. Heavy rain may have contributed, but it still affected the atmosphere. Two of my sisters were bitten by an unidentified insect and developed itchy lesions all over their hands and backs. We can't confirm the cause, but it was concerning and raised questions about room hygiene and possible infestation. The food was another big letdown. By the third night, we felt we had no choice but to leave the hotel to find something edible. After discussions with the chef and manager, the food had improved by the fourth and final night.

The location is great, and the staff are friendly. The rooms are average, and there are lots of cats, including in the dining room. Food quality and taste are low to average, while bar service is poor if you can even find the barman. The setup, service and customer experience are well behind Cotton bay and Mourouk hotels.

We had several different kinds of food each day, and the Saturday night entertainment was a nice addition. A pleasant stay at Cocotiers Hotel, with great food.

13 December 2025 This is a five-day stay at Les Cocotiers, Rodrigues, and I'm writing on my third day. Port Mathurin is only about 5-10 minutes away, which is why I gave the location 2 stars. The service and room get 1 star from me because things are unclean and the upkeep is poor. The bathroom has no door, so water splashes by the toilet; it looks as if the door broke and was never fixed. The room wasn't tidy to the standard I'd expect even from a 3-star hotel, and the teacups were below standard too. Teabags taken out of their packets are kept in a basket, which felt unhygienic. There was a tangled bundle of hair on the bedsheet cover, and it wasn't mine. Housekeeping needs to improve a lot. I rarely saw a smile or warm hospitality from staff. Their cold expressions made me feel unwelcome. The pool was greenish, and even in the scorching heat I didn't want to try it. Dinner starts at 7pm, though 6:30pm would be better. Breakfast is at 7:30am, but could start at 6:30am. Even at those late times, staff weren't ready. Some dishes arrived well after the stated time, so guests could miss items that hadn't reached the buffet yet. It was disappointing to see hungry people walking around the restaurant, waiting almost with pleading eyes for staff to let them in. If the hotel says 7:30, everything should be ready then. Chickens 🐔, cats and pigeons wander freely through the restaurant. Exotic? Yes. Hygienic? No. I passed reception so many times and found nobody there. There's no phone in the room, so guests are told to call reception on their own mobiles. Once, when there was no electricity, I called and got through to Mauritius Cocotiers while I was at Cocotiers Rodrigues! Les Cocotiers needs to rebuild a lot in its service quality and infrastructure. Even a 3-star hotel should show a minimum level of professionalism.

The friendly, helpful staff came early the next morning to fix what they could, and I appreciated that. The location is practical too, about a 15-minute walk from Port Mathurin, with plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. Our room looked out to sea, and the morning and sunset views were worth staying for. Still, my four nights left me with mixed feelings. On arrival, the room smelled of cigarettes, the toilet was defective and unusable, and the bathroom itself smelled foul. The mattress was so hard it felt like sleeping on stone, which was really uncomfortable. I wanted to check out the next morning. For a 3-star hotel, the food was decent, but management needs to do something about the flies. They were annoying.
