Grants Villas

BEWARE, THIS IS AN APARTMENT, NOT A VILLA, AND A POOR ONE. My wife and I stayed here in May 2015. The website called it a luxury villa with a private beach, but what we found was a run-down first-floor apartment beside a very public beach, with only a 1 meter wide section nearby. We had serious problems: no running water, rusting furniture, unsafe electrical fittings, ants and rats, and a badly leaking roof that left foul-smelling black mould on the walls and ceilings. My wife and I both came down with bronchitis, most likely from the mould. We didn't find the area tourist friendly, and the locals felt intimidating to us. Loud groups of Indians rented the downstairs apartment and played music. The Internet was unbelievably slow, repeatedly measuring just 1 mps, so we couldn't stream or send photos, and it was down for more than half our stay. Management responded very poorly. The cable/wi-fi TV picture was so bad it looked as if a white veil covered the scene. The beach felt dangerous too. Locals sped up and moored their speed boats there, putting people at risk of serious injury. Aggressive wild dogs sniffed and snarled at us as soon as we went near the water, which was really scary. What should have been a relaxing holiday turned into a nightmare. The property was so bad that my UK credit card company refunded my rental money, agreeing I'd faced serious misselling and a very false description. Tripadviser is full of dubious reviews from people who could never have been there. Avoid it at all costs. For this price, it would have been cheaper and definitely better to book a package through a reputable travel agency and stay in a good hotel in a good part of the island. The property's standard is far below anything acceptable in the 21 st century.
