Kaani Village & Spa

The pool was one of the few things we liked, and it was nice in the middle. But we were so frustrated with the service that we’re leaving for another hotel. Staff were hard to find, and for help or breakfast we had to walk about five minutes to Kaani Palm. One night our key card failed, so my wife and I had to go there late to get help. The Wi-Fi was also weak and kept cutting out, despite being described as good before we booked, so we couldn’t work from the hotel. When we checked about room requests, the Kaani staff seemed unbothered and short-staffed. We were asked to come back later, and by then Kaani Grand was fully booked. There were also people waiting at reception in Kaani Palm, where it was hot and there were only fans, no AC. This feels more like an apartment block than a hotel chain. We stayed at Kaani Palm three years ago, and service and quality have gone downhill since then. We want to support local hotels, but the lack of service and care makes that difficult.

The hotel is in a great location, and breakfast had a good variety. Getting to and from the hotel, though, caused a lot of stress. After we arrived, we waited in the lobby with our luggage for half an hour before finding out that there’s no receptionist after 6 pm. For service then, guests have to walk five minutes to Kaani Beach hotel. Checkout and the airport transfer were just as poorly explained. Staff didn’t tell us clearly where to go for the shuttle, and we nearly missed our boat.

Everything else was fine, and the Maldivian woman at the front office was so kind and friendly when I checked in. But at checkout, the buggy driver scolded us in front of other guests. Our boat was at 9:30, and we’d already told the front office and receptionist. He took our bag and waited there for more than 20 minutes, which wasn’t our fault. Work can be stressful, but scolding us and reacting like that wasn’t acceptable 🙃 😑.

I was booked for three nights at Kaani Village and Spa, then got upgraded to Kaani Palm Beach. For a small hotel, the rooms and facilities were good, and there’s a nice pool.
