Mookai Hotel

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They even suggested buying water from the shop across the road instead of at the hotel, and having breakfast outside. The place was clean and looked fairly recently decorated. Our room and bathroom were small but adequate, though there weren't enough plug sockets, especially near the bed. The shower curtain instead of a screen was impractical. I liked having a balcony and a view over the road, but the doors didn't seal well, so the aircon couldn't cool the bed near the door. We'd really chosen the hotel for the pool, so I was annoyed to learn on arrival that it was closed for refurbishment. I was also annoyed when I asked about the complimentary transfers I'd booked and was told they were no longer included. They eventually took that back after I complained, but it shouldn't have been an issue. Fine for a short stay, but without the pool it's overpriced, and don't expect high-end amenities.

The staff were very polite, but the hotel itself needs a complete renovation. The furniture was old and dirty, and the room smelled bad. The photos also didn't match what the rooms were actually like. Honestly, we felt unsafe during our stay in Male.

The location was a big plus, just a minute from the ferry to the airport. It’s a straightforward business hotel with no frills. The concierge was very helpful, booking my speedboat tickets and making reservations, and they were willing to allow a late checkout when my work appointment ran over. We did have some trouble finding our room because there wasn’t a porter around to show us where it was. Breakfast is served at the hotel restaurant across the street.

For a night in Male before continuing your journey, this place is worth considering. It’s an easy walk from the ferry, and the staff were courteous and friendly. A nice option for a short stay.
