We had a modern, functional room on the 9th floor, with a surprisingly large shower. It was small, as you’d expect on a densely populated island, and looked out over the sea, airport, and two mosques. Being next to those mosques made it noisy in the evening and early morning during the call to prayer. We stayed one night at Samann Grand Hotel in Male between flights. The location suited us, with a short walk to the island’s main points of interest, which we covered on a two-hour evening stroll. Check-in staff and the man who picked us up at the airport provided good service. We only had breakfast there. At check-in they asked about food allergies and intolerances, but my wife's food preferences hadn’t been passed on to the restaurant. The staff seemed flustered by her dietary requirements, and there were very few things she could eat. We’re unlikely to return. If we need an overnight stay in Male in future, we’ll probably look for somewhere in Hulhumale.

The hotel gave us a complimentary shuttle to the airport, and I’d stay there again if I return to Male. We spent one night there on our last evening in the Maldives, after staying on a local island. It’s easy to reach from the airport and well placed near the King Salman mosque, within walking distance of sights like the artificial beach, fish market, and national museum. There are some good food options nearby, especially if you’re willing to wander through the surrounding streets and alleys. The rooms are on the small side, but the beds are very comfortable and the bathroom was great.

I’d give it 10 stars if I could, but five is the highest option. The hotel was super clean, cozy, and comfortable, and the staff were top notch, always ready to help. The food was tasty and high standard. They provide lots of supplies, including toothpaste, a toothbrush, shower cap, soap, shampoo, sewing kit, ear plugs, shaving kit, and more. We highly recommend it!

We needed just one night before moving to an island resort the next day, and the team looked after us from start to finish. They picked us up from the airport, dropped us off, and introduced us to the people handling our island transfer. They also helped us with our lost luggage at the airport and made sure someone was taking care of us throughout. The room was very nice, but the service was excellent and really blew me away. I’d highly recommend this hotel.

The whole team at Samann Grand made us feel welcome and well looked after during our one-night stay in male. We got a free room upgrade, plus a welcome drink and dessert. We also tried the rooftop restaurant, where both the food and service were very good. Highly recommend it if you need somewhere to stay in male :)
