Medhufushi Island Resort

The staff and service were wonderful, and the ambience was lovely. The food let things down and could be better. Getting there takes about 2.5 hours by speedboat from the airport, and the ride is really bumpy. If your budget allows, I’d suggest taking a seaplane.

The buffet was good, with plenty of dishes to choose from, and Dinesh was kind and understanding and did a lot to help us. His support made a rough stay a little better. We had a water villa a long way from the main areas despite travelling with children and senior citizens. There was no buggy service, and with no room service we had to walk all the way to the restaurant just to order food. That was especially hard for the older members of our family. The room’s air conditioning also wasn’t working properly, and brown, rusty water came from the toilet pipes. That was unpleasant and unacceptable for a resort of this standard. After my brother argued heatedly with management, they eventually moved us to another room. I found the management at Medhufushi very disappointing. The local Maldives agent, Aitken Spence (Mr. Sujeewa and Mr. Suresh), who arranged the resort, wasn’t helpful and didn’t assist with sorting out our problems.

The island is beautiful and full of wildlife, and the resort is so quiet during the day it can feel like you’re the only guests there. We stayed in a water villa, and it was spotless. Maharazul cleaned it every day and even decorated the bed for our anniversary after noticing the cards in our room. The snorkeling included in the all-inclusive package was brilliant, and the dolphin trip we paid extra for was well worth it. We felt looked after from the airport onward. A friendly representative took us and our luggage to the seaplane, and our bags were waiting in our room when we arrived. The staff were lovely and always ready to help. We had Hasem as our personal waiter for the whole stay, and he was brilliant. My fiancée has a gluten intolerance, and they made sure she had suitable food. Special thanks to Hasem and Maharazul for going above and beyond for us and other guests. We saw a few families with children. The resort is child-friendly, but it’s very quiet and there’s no playground, so I don’t think it’s the best choice for kids. I also saw some bad reviews about the staff, but in our experience they treated all the guests fairly and attentively. Some guests from particular cultures seemed very rude to staff and found fault with everything. People have also complained about lizards in the rooms. They’re native to the islands, harmless, and cute, so if you’re scared of them, the Maldives probably isn’t for you. Highly recommend this place for couples and adults. 10/10.

For our honeymoon in April 2026, we spent a week enjoying lovely weather and beautiful scenery. The staff were some of the most helpful people I’ve come across on a trip. The all-inclusive food and drinks at the restaurant and bar were fantastic. We did spend a couple of quid extra on a dolphin excursion, mojitos that weren’t included, souvenirs, and cigarettes for my wife since vaping is illegal in the Maldives. We’re already talking about coming back for an anniversary. 10/10.
