Beach Cottage

Mohammed was warm and caring, and helped with every question or problem, even after our booking had ended. We’d moved to another guesthouse on the same island for diving, but he was still there for us. The room was cozy and nice.

I saw both five-star and one-star ratings, so here’s my honest take. For about €58 a night, this was the cheapest option we found in Rasdhoo, and I think it’s good value. The basics are covered: Wi-Fi, a smart TV with the usual streaming platforms, air conditioning, a ceiling fan, hairdryer, shower and beach towels, gel and shampoo, plus a shared kettle and microwave with free instant coffee, tea, and powdered milk. It’s near the ferry terminal and Rasdhoo’s main streets. Bikini Beach is a roughly 10-minute walk, which isn’t ideal, but the island is small. Mohammed looked after the room and was very kind. When we had a problem with insects, mainly mosquitoes, he burned special incense and deep-cleaned the room every day. He also arranged a free buggy ride to the speedboat the next day, even though it was only about a five-minute walk, and answered questions on WhatsApp. Service was a full five out of five. The room could use maintenance. Several window handles were broken, and some walls had damp patches. Excursions seemed a bit expensive, so we booked elsewhere after the owner clearly told us the prices. The bigger disappointment was that the owner had said on booking that private whale shark tours were available, but that wasn’t possible when we arrived. In short, it’s a good basic hotel with what you need, very competitive prices, and excellent service, though the rooms are old. We didn’t book excursions through them because we didn’t think they were a good deal, but we liked the hotel.

We spent four nights here, and I can’t recommend the excursions they offer. They didn’t deliver what had been promised at all. If you want to go on excursions, book them somewhere else.

The room was cool and comfortable, with great air conditioning, a clean bathroom, and beach towels. Free water was available too. The ferry pickup was handy, so we didn’t have to drag our luggage along the sandy streets. It’s a little farther from Bikini Beach than some places, but close to the local beach, a good restaurant, and shops. What made the stay for us was the people. Amir was ready to help at any time, and Mohammed told us about coconuts and even opened one for us. Chatting with them gave us a little insight into Maldivian life and culture. We’d definitely come back if we can.
