There used to be a natural bay with dolphins and two islands you could walk to across the lagoon, and the resort was one of the Maldives’ best. Now it feels overwhelmed by water bungalows, with villas packed in everywhere. They may look beautiful, but they don’t fit the island’s former simple charm or natural feel. I can’t imagine staying in one and not missing walks along the beach. It’s a real shame to see such a naturally beautiful place changed this way.

This resort once felt distinctive because of its setting and natural character. That has been disrupted by the overwater villas, the “super-luxury” construction, and the destruction of the bay where two small islands could once be reached on foot. I can’t call the resort ugly, but now it looks like so many others and has lost the exclusivity it used to have. I hope someone reads this, even though I know negative reviews are often deleted, so others can avoid making the same mistake. I can’t tell whether earlier reviews are honest or written by people who knew the original resort. Maybe some arrived expecting something like a Soneva, which this place will never be. It’s a shame.

I’m excited to try the seven different culinary experiences. The resort is at the dolphin sanctuary, and the speedboat ride from Velana Airport takes around 40 minutes. Incredible.
