The island is stunning, with clear water, white sand and loads of marine life. Snorkelling was world class, and our room felt brand new and was well maintained. It was a little cramped, though, and the overwater villa door opened straight into the bedroom. At night, the buggies passing by were loud enough to hear and feel. Onu was great, and the breakfast coffee was excellent. The other restaurants were average at best, while Vakku was just bad. Dinner there was hard to book because there weren’t enough staff, and once we ordered, dishes could take hours. Managers apologised when the kitchen fell behind but didn’t do anything to fix it. I know bottlenecks happen, but even offering a glass of wine would have been a nice gesture. A few staff members around the island were cheerful and gave amazing service, but that wasn’t true of everyone. The team seemed a bit unhappy. Our host was friendly, though not as proactive as hosts at other resorts. For instance, there were no buggy transfers to or from dinner. Snorkelling equipment was free for our whole stay, which was nice, but the dive staff didn’t seem especially happy or keen to explain where the best spots were. My wife and I have preferred other Maldives resorts, where they go out of their way to surprise and delight guests. Vakkaru disappointed us in lots of small ways. There wasn’t one major fault, but the details added up, and we wouldn’t stay again.

Our villa was spacious and thoughtfully designed, and Tina, our butler, went above and beyond to help organize our special event. We’re so grateful for her dedication. The island is lush and surrounded by blue holes with beautiful coral. An extraordinary stay, highly recommended.

We loved our sunset water villa, and there were several snorkelling spots around the atoll with all kinds of sea creatures. There’s a good choice of dinner restaurants, too. The staff were very attentive, especially our butler Tina, who took such good care of us. She’s amazing! Can’t wait to come back 🤍

The kids club was reliable, attentive and well run, and the butlers, restaurant team and kids club staff were kind and helpful. Service around the resort felt warm and accommodating. There’s also easy access to beautiful snorkelling, with breathtaking views. Food was very average compared with other resorts in the Maldives and elsewhere, and underwhelming for a place positioning itself as ultra-luxury. The water villas were noisier than expected, with buggies going back and forth on the wooden walkways. Early seaplane arrivals around 7AM were loud and hard to ignore as well. Vakkaru is a solid Maldives option and not too far from Malé, though getting there does require a seaplane. The pre-arrival communication was disappointing. We didn’t get a welcome email with arrival details before check-in, even though that’s something we’d expect from a standard hotel, especially one positioning itself as ultra-luxury.

Tina made our trip memorable, helping with everything and even arranging a three-wheel bicycle for me because I don’t know how to ride a two-wheeler. She went above and beyond and is such a marvelous, welcoming person. Joseph made us yum yum food, and dinner with him was an amazing experience. Dora was gentle and helpful when I went diving, and showed me a clown fish. Ahmed showed me a turtle and made my day. I wish I knew everyone’s names so I could thank them one by one. The whole stay was amazing and very luxurious. We were treated like queens, from reception and the welcome drink and sweets to the spectacular restaurant food, especially breakfast. The spa view was magical, the rooms were clean, and service was very fast. Everyone working there was amazing and welcoming. Thank you for a trip I’ll never forget 🤍
