Sunbird Livingstonia Hotel sits right on Lake Malawi, and the lake views from the roomy, comfortable rooms are hard to beat around Salima. There’s a lively mix of international travelers, which gives the place a nice feel. Still, the facilities and decor seem dated for the premium dollar-based prices. The scenery is memorable, but I’d wait for some updates before coming back.

The swimming pool is Olympic-sized, and there are lovely beach views with plenty of nature around. Our room was clean and nicely decorated. Staff were friendly and professional, and service came promptly.

I’d try to get a bungalow with a patio. The lake is so calming, and the place is beautiful. Staff were warm and accommodating. Master Chef Kapina Moyo came out to check that everyone was enjoying their meal, and his omelette Chef Ferister was outstanding!

Lake Malawi is still as beautiful as ever, but it has risen and covered many of the beaches we used to know. That takes quite a bit away from the experience of visiting the lakeside.

A great spot for a quiet lakeside break, with reliable Internet keeping you connected to the rest of the world. The food was delicious, and a courteous waiter was never far away.
