Playa Suites Acapulco

We just got back from a week here, and the stay was even better than expected. The mostly national clientele made it feel like a more authentic cultural experience. Our ocean view room was large, the food was delicious, and the staff made the trip memorable. Special thanks to Victor at the bar and Reyna the tortilla chef, who were both a pleasure to deal with.

We had a horrible, disgusting stay. The room was run down and filthy, and management did nothing to help. We booked for five people, but check-in took over an hour, and my husband was told he had to pay for three extra people even though the room had two double beds and a sofa with a trundle bed. The first room had no sofa bed, the next had no AC, and only the third room worked out. Late that night we found no extra pillow or blanket for the trundle bed. The front desk said they had none, so my husband used a sweater as a pillow and a too-small towel to cover himself. The same rude employee was there the next day and again said there were no blankets or pillows. I pointed out that we’d paid for an extra person and suggested they get one from an empty room. Somehow, they later brought them. We didn’t get a bath mat until the third day. When I asked for a broom to clear the sand, the maid came with a guest towel to wipe the floor and seemed annoyed I’d asked. Please look at the photos and video and judge for yourself. They charge for everything and have all these silly little rules, while the service leaves a lot to be desired.

Breakfast was great, but lunch and dinner were mostly bad, and the drinks were poor quality. The place is old and falling apart, and the rooms have plenty of space but are poorly decorated, more like a roadside hotel. Most people weren’t very friendly, though there were some exceptions. It’s cheap, and that seems to attract some disgusting guests. Like many reviews here say, you get what you pay for. I wouldn’t come back in 10,000 lives.

The first room was still dirty and the bathroom was horrific, so they moved us. We were told we could use the pool while the new room was being prepared, but the towel attendant wouldn’t give us towels without a room number, which we didn’t have yet. Check-in itself took almost an hour because their process was inefficient and outdated. Once we reached the replacement room, both the TV and AC were broken. The repair person was helpful, but it took an hour and a half to fix things, including replacing the TV. The AC broke again overnight, and we’d had enough. My brother-in-law had prepaid, but they refused to refund the two nights we didn’t stay.
