Hotel Villas Ajijic

The gardens around the rooms are lovely, and the hot tub looks out over the lake. A very nice place to stay.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, but the night was awful. My husband and I only had really cold water in the shower, and there were ants all over the bathroom. The walls are thin enough that we could hear the people upstairs, and people were noisy. We wanted to leave. The hotel needs major improvements.

The grounds have a lot of potential, and being right on the lake was lovely. Our room was large and worked well for our dog, but it felt outdated, the carpets smelled mildewy, and there was no bathroom door. I also found dead bugs on my pillow. We had to tell staff whenever we went out for dinner or we would have been locked out. The owner seemed keen to hear how things could improve. It felt a bit like a decaying family summer home that could be marvelous with the right care. We’ll likely come back, but would ask for an updated room.

The internet kept dropping, and there was confusion over our reservation. We had to switch rooms twice during our five nights. There’s a sign warning guests about marking the white walls, yet there was a disgusting brown swipe by the toilet. This place is an old cake with pretty icing. It could have been worse, but don’t go.
