Hotel Casa Monarca

The location was great, close to good restaurants and sights, and our room was clean with a good layout. Staff communication was very limited, though. When we got to the front desk, the attendant didn't say much beyond telling us it wasn't 3PM check-in time yet. It's a good hotel, but the staff could be better at welcoming guests and helping them.

I've only been here a day, but I wanted to leave an early review after reading some of the others. I'll update it if things change. At check-in, the staff were kind and attentive. They switched to English once I ran out of Spanish, which I appreciated. The room has its own Wi-Fi router, and at first the connection was among the fastest I've had in a hotel. I also like the keypad locks. The entrance gets locked later at night, but someone was there to let me in right away and promptly helped when I needed to get back inside. UPDATE: The Wi-Fi has been really inconsistent. I'm struggling to get through even a basic work video call, which is so frustrating. The room is still good, so I'm leaving my review up.

We found it handy for a short city visit: the hotel is very central, has parking service, and there's a coffee bar next door. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the AC worked well, though it was so strong that we had trouble turning it off. They also provided complimentary water bottles.

The young man on the night shift was the one exception to a very disappointing stay. The manager was rude to my wife, and the male receptionist during the day wasn't up to the standard I expected, even though the owner had recommended the place to us. The bathroom door was loud, the hair dryer didn't work, and when we asked for another one, they refused. There's a lot to improve. We'll try somewhere else for our time and money next time.
