Hotel Villas Mariposas

There were so many rules that made the stay less enjoyable. Outside food isn’t allowed, and the food they sell is limited and overpriced. The Wi-Fi was awful, and there wasn’t even toilet paper in the room, so we had to ask for some. The room wasn’t properly clean when we arrived: there was hair, the bathroom looked used, and the towels were stained. The place is much more run-down than it appears in the photos, and the price is far too high for what’s offered. We were wary because of the reviews here, and once we arrived, we understood why people had written them.

It has the basics covered: hot water, TV, clean towels, plenty of shampoo and toilet paper, complimentary coffee, and hooks for clothes. I liked the decorative light fixtures and little paintings in the bathroom. The place looks simple but pretty, with a romantic touch, and its rustic cabin feel suits Atlixco, a "Pueblo Mágico" (Magical Town). The pool looked nice, though heavy rain kept me out of it. Staff were attentive and handled my billing request efficiently. There was hair and lint on the floor, so cleanliness could be better. Noise from other rooms carries a lot, and it bothered me while I was there for work. I’d recommend it if you’re not sensitive to noise, since sounds from outside get into the room easily.

It doesn’t live up to what the listings promise. The restaurant doesn’t match its advertising, and the green areas are limited. The heated pool is the one redeeming point, although it’s small and tends to get crowded. The rooms are dark, small, and poorly ventilated, and the bathroom is cramped and uncomfortable. A terrible experience, nothing like what they show.

The restaurant food was excellent and reasonably priced. The pool, though, was tiny and dirty, with so little room you couldn’t sunbathe, and the piles of rubble nearby made a terrible impression. The rooms cost far too much given the awful condition of the furniture. I gave the service one star because when we asked for help with the internet and a garden heater, everyone politely said yes, but nobody ever came to help.
