The lagoon is right there and was lovely, but the location is too far from town for us. The property is old, and the bathroom had mold with a smell that hit like a wall as soon as I walked in. I wouldn't recommend staying here, even aside from the price. We had a one-night booking, then our travel plans changed and we needed to arrive in Bacalar a day earlier. That same morning I called to extend the reservation, since Booking showed rooms for $67 a night, less than the $75 we'd booked at first. We were arriving late, so I called to make sure a late check-in and the same room for both nights would be okay. I mentioned the online rooms, but they said they could help by phone, so we booked during the call. At the hotel they asked for 2,000 pesos, or $100, for the room. I questioned this because the price on Booking was lower for that same night, and we expected at least the rate from our original booking. Nobody had told us on the phone there'd be another rate. The man at reception said walk-in bookings had a fixed reception price. But the hotel is far out at the edge of town, so it doesn't feel like a walk-in place. We'd called to extend an existing reservation, and not explaining the fixed rate felt very unprofessional. I argued, but the receptionist only spoke Spanish. We had no room for the night unless we paid, so we did. I raised it again on WhatsApp the next day with the same receptionist. He apologized for a communication problem and misunderstanding, but wouldn't correct the rate or otherwise resolve it. I messaged several times. It really bothered me because it felt like an easy way to take advantage of us and make extra money. I could understand a higher last-minute rate, but Booking was showing even less than when we'd first booked. I'd also read comments saying guests were charged 300 pesos per person just to stay on the property after checkout, so it seemed they cared more about getting extra money than good reviews. The service didn't feel guest-minded at all.

The rooms were spacious and the staff were friendly. It’s a lovely place on the pier, though sometimes there was a sewage smell. Wind could also make it hard to cook in the kitchen.

I loved the property. It matched the pictures and was peaceful, with lovely patios and sunrise views. It's a bit outside the center, which made sense for the setting. Isabel was very helpful.

The hotel was in good shape, and the view was beautiful. It’s not too far from the main plaza. Leon, the registration officer, was very polite and helpful. Nobody cleaned our room during the two days.
