The tents are cheap, and the location is handy, about a 10-minute walk from the zocalo and 5 minutes from the waterfront. But the place is dirty everywhere, including the bathroom and kitchen. Service was poor too: on the day we checked in, the owner didn't change our sheets until 10pm. It feels like the owner puts no care into the place at all.

The room was extremely hot, and there were two cockroaches in the refrigerator. I tried calling the owner, but they never answered.

The place has a nice atmosphere for backpackers, though it was a bit dirty. We were able to check in about four hours later than the stated time.

Someone broke in while I was there and stole a backpack, so the place felt completely unsafe. It was also impossible to rest with the heat and constant noise. The kitchen and refrigerator were disgusting, and everything looked dirty and damaged, like the place had been abandoned for years. Calling it camping feels shameful, with tents set up on broken pallets. The dorm had no air conditioning or window, and its door was broken. Worst place I've ever stayed.

Yanil, who runs the hostel, was the best host we've ever had. She was so nice, friendly, and cool, and the people living in Bacalar were lovely too. The place has bathrooms, showers, and a well-equipped kitchen. I spent nearly 20 days there, staying in a really comfortable tent in one of the best locations, for a very affordable price. We originally meant to stay a couple of days, but ended up there for weeks. Bacalar has a way of making you want to stay, and my time there was very pleasant. I'd definitely come back. Thank you so much 😊
