Hotel America

The staff were friendly at both check-in and check-out. I stayed for one night, and the room was clean but very basic, with nothing special about it. The bed wasn't especially comfortable, though it did have an air conditioner and TV. The overall feel was more motel or hostel. It could work for a cheap stopover in Bacalar, but nearby houses had fires burning at night, and the strong smoke smell came into our room. It wasn't an inviting stay.

Hotel America Bacalar. For 65 a night, I've stayed in much nicer places. This felt more like a motel. The front desk service was nice, and they offered free water and bikes to ride around town. The room looked like mold was growing, water from the air conditioner dripped into the shower, the lighting was terrible, and there weren't many outlets. There were no blankets on the bed. It was very noisy, maybe from other guests or neighbors, and I could hear cars too. The front desk service is the only reason I'm giving it a star.

We stayed two nights in mid-April and enjoyed our time there. The hotel was clean and comfortable, and the prices were very reasonable. We got dropped off from the bus on the main bypass, at the closed bus station, around 2:30 in the morning. It was about four blocks from the hotel. We hadn't made a reservation, but got a ride over, woke someone there, and were given a room. I'd recommend it to anyone.

The staff were nice, and they provide free filtered water. Very clean, too. Our room was on the lower level, where the hallway echo made it extremely noisy. We had earplugs, so it was okay. Maybe upstairs is quieter?
