The lunch and dinner menu could use some work, though breakfast was good each day. We enjoyed the beautiful, lush setting on Lake Bacalar, and the rooms were lovely. It’s also within walking distance of the main plaza. Xavier and Darwin gave excellent service at the beach bar, and our daytime front office person was accommodating too, though I’m sorry I didn’t get her name. We’d stay again. My only complaint is that at this daily price, they should provide more than two coffees and two bottles of water when asked. The night front office person was rude when we requested more coffee.

Our upper-level treehouse room had a wonderful view from the patio hammock, and the resort was quiet during our visit. There was live entertainment by the pool on Friday night. I was looking for a waterfront hotel with a nice dock and free paddle boards and kayaks, and Hotel Carolina Bacalar ticked every box. Some other hotels I looked at charged extra for paddle boarding. We booked a great sailboat tour through reception, and they even offered a private sailboat tour with pickup from the hotel dock, which sounded luxurious. The room was amazing and all the staff were great. We loved our stay.

Very unpleasant. I thought the place looked cute when we walked up, but it was expensive and not worth the headache. If you want a relaxing trip, don’t stay here, especially in ROOM 9. We couldn’t get to sleep until 11 pm because of the noise, then were woken before 5 am. The room is directly above the dining room and bar, not the kitchen, and there’s no way to close the window. Employees started arriving around 5:30 am, which was 2:30 am for me because of the time difference. They slammed dishes and silverware and yelled back and forth, even though it was only a seating area. The air conditioning also dripped onto my face all night since it was right above my head. I love Mexico, but like anywhere, including the USA, there are good and bad places. This was a bad stay.

The food was the best we had all week, and the staff made us feel so welcome. It’s a fantastic boutique hotel, with a gorgeous, comfortable space. Highly recommend it. Can’t wait to return!

Darwin gave amazing service, and I loved the lively concept, the natural setting, and the beautiful rooms at Carolina. The shared spaces are lovely, with great food and drinks, plus kayaks and paddleboards to use. I really recommend getting out on the water in Bacalar that way. The pillows were the one thing that felt below the standard for the price, and they kept me from getting a good rest. That’s why I’m not giving five stars.
