Royal Palm Bacalar Cabañas & Lagoon Club

The lagoon room was fabulous, with direct access to the water. We had asked to move and also stayed in a double room, which was damp, noisy from the road, and a 12-minute walk from the lagoon. We only learned that distance from a map shared after check-in. The walk was rough, and late at night it was especially concerning: the road runs parallel to the lagoon, there are no lights along the path, and walking back would feel unsafe. The town is about a 5-10 minute drive away, and taxis in Bacalar aren't common, so getting around takes some effort. The hotel is a long walk from town, though it can be peaceful if that's what you're after and you're ready to look for a taxi. The damp in the double room got into our suitcases; we couldn't dry anything and left with musty-smelling clothes. The lagoon room is the one worth staying in. I honestly would have preferred to pay a bit more and stay elsewhere.

The location is fantastic, though the rooms felt worn and were only adequate. I’d gladly come back to Bacalar, but would probably book a different hotel.

We had a great stay and loved the resort. The lagoon access, with its lovely pier and gorgeous views, was the best part. Our room looked toward the swimming pool; although the resort is near the highway, shutting the door kept the noise very low, and we woke to birdsong. The staff were so kind. We had an absolutely great time and will be back.

We had a great time, the two of us with our child. The lake is wonderful and well worth visiting, and the 3 Star hotel has spacious rooms. I’d spend extra for a lake view room right by the lagoon: you get the view, parking, room for the kids to play, and direct private access to the lagoon. There are nice places for breakfast, lunch, and dinner just opposite.
