The drinks and the service have been good, but the snacks really have been just a snack. Today, for instance, they offered potato wedges. We paid for an upgraded room that came with breakfast plus an hour of drinks and canapes, and that part has felt mediocre. The American breakfast is more like a continental one. I came to Veracruz hoping for a different kind of trip, since I usually go to tourist spots and wanted to try somewhere new. Veracruz sounded good, so I picked Camino Real, but the place feels more minimal than I expected, and so far I'm not impressed. I can't say I recommend it. The beach wasn't good, and neither was the pool. It needs cleaning and maintenance.

We've stayed here three years in a row, and it's easily the best hotel in the hotel zone. Be ready to speak Spanish, though, since the place isn't set up for international tourists.

We were covered in bites after finding bed bugs in our bed. We're still waiting for the hotel to refund our money. Camino Real used to be one of the best hotel chains in Mexico. What happened? Not anymore.

We had a great view of the bay of Veracruz from our nicely furnished room. The lobby, restaurant, and staff were all wonderful. A really nice hotel in the Boca del Rio area.

On both visits I enjoyed the restaurant, which has a great view. The staff were hospitable, the pool was nice, and the grounds were clean and well kept. The location and views are fantastic, and being so close to the beach was perfect. I stayed two separate nights, a week apart. On Sunday, in a 9th-floor room, the view was amazing and the hotel was quiet. That room had a coffee machine and a room service menu. On Tuesday during semana Santa, we were on the 3rd floor. The view was still nice, but there was no coffee or room service menu. I found the bathroom fan annoying, didn't like being charged extra for the fridge, and disliked the TV turning on automatically whenever I docked the key. There wasn't a hair dryer in the room, either.
