We took a mole class with Chef Gerry and had a blast. I’m already hoping to make those dishes at home, and Luis’s risotto at Anica was the best I’ve ever tasted, spot on every time. Edgar also made the margarita class a lot of fun, and we left with some great recipes. We’d come to Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes for our 25th anniversary, and our oceanfront penthouse made the occasion feel special. The views were stunning, and from the moment we arrived, everyone treated us like family. Alma at Anica’s reception greeted us with a smile each time. At dinner, Ernesto, Daniel, and Eduardo took wonderful care of us, Alberto seemed to anticipate what we needed, and Ignacio kept our wine glasses full. Breakfast became a daily favorite too, thanks to Jose, Juan, Erasmo, and Esteban. We loved relaxing in a cabana by the adults-only pool, looking out at the ocean. Janet, Sebastian, and Juan decorated it for our anniversary, a really thoughtful surprise, and pool service was excellent. Leonel made the spectacular sports bar even more enjoyable. We’re already looking forward to coming back for the Super Bowl in 2027. Every person we met was friendly and professional, and it was clear they cared about their work. This was more than a vacation for us, and we can’t wait to return. ❤️

The golf course is beautiful, and we had a great day out there, although it cost $225 per person. The comfort stations had snacks and drinks, which was nice. The resort itself was pleasant, but it’s really in the middle of nowhere. We were drawn in by the golf and then got a lot of pressure to buy a timeshare. The sales team was nice, but no means no. We said we were there to play golf, yet they passed us among three or four salespeople and spent three hours trying to sell to us. The VIP breakfast was like a Motel 6 continental breakfast. It’s a long way out, and the sales pitch took too much of our time.

We first ran into this in March 2025, when my wife and I came to Cabo on a cruise. We wanted a glass-bottom boat ride, and people at the marina offered a free excursion if we visited the resort for a supposedly no-obligation, 90-minute presentation. They drove us out and told us on the way that we had to lie and say we were golfers staying at another resort. They even sent a fake reservation receipt. The presentation took four hours. Three different salesmen rudely tried to pressure us into buying, and then they wouldn’t drive us back to Cabo. When we finally got to the marina, we found the guys who had lured us out. I was angry, but they smoothed things over with a couple of T-shirts and a bottle of tequila. In December 2025, my wife, sister, brother-in-law, and I flew back to Cabo and stayed at the lovely little Los Milagros downtown. We wanted another glass-bottom boat trip and, sure enough, the same guys were there. They apologized and offered a free ride if we came to see an Airbnb. I said I wouldn’t go back to the ignorant salesmen at Grand Solmar. They insisted it was somewhere different, and we got sucked in again. Same deal: lie about being golfers, and use a fake resort reservation. I’m never going back to Cabo.

The way management handled our room concerns was as upsetting as the room itself. Paloma first offered a $200 credit, then $400 after we discussed it further. That felt inadequate for spending most of our vacation in a room with water damage, an ongoing musty smell, and possible mold. We felt blamed for bringing it up instead of treated as guests with legitimate health and safety concerns. We stayed at Solmar Pacific Dunes May 28 - June 4, 2026. From arrival, there was a strong mold-like odor. Maintenance briefly inspected and said nothing was wrong. One morning, water dripped from the ceiling onto my wife as she got ready. We saw bubbling paint and signs of water getting in. Maintenance said they fixed the leak, but they sprayed an orange chemical, pushed water out from behind the paint, and assured us it was resolved. The smell stayed. Looking around, we saw what appeared to be black mold in several spots, including ceilings, lampshades, and the bedroom headboard. We opened the AC access panel and found a towel in the unit area, apparently part of the repair. It was soaked through, suggesting the moisture problem was still active. We also got conflicting information from management. Paloma said she couldn’t make a meaningful adjustment and needed to talk with the General Manager. Later, the front desk told us Paloma was the General Manager of Solmar Pacific Dunes. When we asked to speak to her, they said she wasn’t working and we’d have to accept the charges. The Front Desk Manager spoke to us by phone, refused further help, threatened to cancel our already-paid airport shuttle, and said she was calling the police. It felt like they cared more about intimidating unhappy guests than addressing our concerns. We were also troubled that nobody seemed willing to investigate whether nearby rooms could have the same moisture and mold issue. Guests pay premium prices and should be able to expect clean, safe rooms and a professional response to serious maintenance problems. Instead, we dealt with persistent odor, visible water damage, possible mold exposure, inconsistent explanations, a police threat, and no accountability. We left feeling our health and safety hadn’t been taken seriously. The room and the response were beyond disappointing. I strongly recommend inspecting your room when you arrive and considering the possible mold and moisture issues. I can’t recommend Solmar Pacific Dunes and would suggest looking elsewhere.

Our first visit to Los Cabos was a lovely one in many ways. The suite was beautiful, the resort was quiet and peaceful, and the staff were kind and attentive. Maury, who took our daily InVilla Dining breakfast orders, was a ray of sunshine each morning and made sure nothing was missed. At the pool, Eric was outstanding, rushing around to bring everyone food, drinks, towels, and whatever else they needed while staying upbeat and professional. I also loved the spa: Antonia treated me and Marciela treated my daughter, and both gave wonderful massages with such warmth. We had fun on the camel rides with Cactus Experiences, where our guide Billy was great. The whale watching and pirate ship dinner show were enjoyable too. We ran out of time for the ATV rides. The big downside was the timeshare pitch, which took five hours of our vacation. Halfway through our stay, they called our suite and offered breakfast plus spa and excursion discounts if we listened. A marketing representative questioned us over breakfast about our jobs and travel history to gauge what timeshare price to pitch. Then they showed us their most luxurious suite as bait before taking us to the sales office and throwing numbers at us. When we declined the high rates and maintenance fees, the “marketing manager” was pompous, unprofessional, and boastful, saying, “He needs your business to get end of year bonuses.” After we politely said no, he apparently didn’t realize we understood a decent amount of Spanish and told the representative to get us out so he could see the next person. They then took us to a back room in another building for one last attempt, a supposed membership called Eleve Travel Group. They asked for $1,890.00 and promised suites at any Grand Solmar properties for $399 for 7 days, twice a year for 10 years. They said they worked directly for the developer and were giving us a special rate, but the contract didn’t show any connection to Grand Solmar. It felt like a huge scam. Aside from everyone involved in the timeshare and fake membership pitch, the staff were warm, helpful, and professional, and the rest of our stay was wonderful. It’s too bad Grand Solmar runs that pitch, because without it this would have been a completely wonderful vacation.
