City Express by Marriott Campeche

The hotel is well placed near the city’s historic center. I did have a couple of issues: the TV wasn’t working properly, and the shower water was only lukewarm.

For a budget stay, this place does the job. The lobby is nice, the staff are friendly and accommodating, and the rooms are clean and spacious, with comfortable beds and plenty of storage. Internet is free and fast, and there’s drinking water in the lobby. Breakfast runs from 7 to 11 am, with coffee and tea available all day. The AC works well. When the guests upstairs are quiet, you hardly hear anything from the street either. There are a few things to know. The rooms don’t have the safes that were advertised, or a microwave, fridge, or coffee maker. Our upstairs neighbors dragged chairs over the tile and made a lot of noise, though otherwise the room was quiet. The TV controls were locked while the picture was zoomed in, so we couldn’t use it. The shower curtain was about 7 inches too short, and water ended up on the bathroom floor. I’d stay here again if I were in town, but I’d try for a top-floor room.

The shower had okay pressure, but the water was lukewarm at best. There’s no fridge or safe in the room, and the window doesn’t open. The AC worked well, though, and the free breakfast was decent. Coffee and tea are always out in the lobby. It’s a quiet, safe, affordable place near the Malacon and the historic old town. The staff were helpful and kind. Think of it as about the equivalent of a Days Inn. The only noise issue was the upstairs neighbor dragging a chair around at all hours during the last two nights of our stay. I’d recommend it for a friendly, well-located budget stay.
