Caleta Hostel

Really friendly staff, comfortable beds, and a clean room. The A/C was good once I asked them to make it colder. There’s a fun rooftop with a pool, a place to hang out, a small cooking area, and workspace. I felt safe and would absolutely stay again. They also have bag storage. I saw a sign about drinking water in the kitchen but didn’t try it. I didn’t shower either, though the shower area looked clean.

It’s a bit of a trek to the beaches and the fun around the Hotel Zone, and Uber can get pricey on a busy night. Still, the photos were accurate, the place was very clean, and the staff were lovely. The ADO bus station and big supermarket next door are really handy. Great value for money.

I paid 1061 MXN for one night, and the WiFi didn’t work. The air conditioner was leaking water too. The whole booking experience was incredibly frustrating. I reserved two nights but asked a week ahead to shorten the stay to one. They refused, which surprised me since hostels usually accommodate that sort of change. I told them I’d arrive a day late and reminded them the day before, and they confirmed it was fine. But when I got there, the receptionist said I was marked as a “no-show.” I showed proof of our messages, and they admitted the mistake. After a lot of hassle, they found me a bed. When I came back from sightseeing, someone else was asleep in it. Either they’d given away my bed or assigned me someone else’s. We had to wake the person up and make the bed again. Since the booking was marked as a no-show, they also never returned my 300 MXN deposit. I was basically robbed of that money.

The building and rooms are nice, but I wouldn’t call this a hostel, and I don’t recommend staying here. I was at a nearby hostel and came over to check in. I had cash and my credit card, but neither was accepted. They don’t take cash, which is absurd, and they have no terminal for physical cards. Even in person at reception, you have to make an online reservation. There’s no WiFi at reception either. The receptionist is there to answer questions, but what if you don’t depend on your phone all the time, or just want to pay cash? You can’t check in that way. Even a fancy five-star hotel accepts cash. This is just a nice building, and they have absolutely no idea what a hostel should be.
