The breakfast is included, but it’s very, very basic. The hotel itself was clean and basic, with old-looking towels and just two bath towels, no hand towels. The receptionist didn’t seem interested in helping. It would do for one night, but I wouldn’t stay there again.

Our flight was cancelled, and the taxi driver quoted $45 USD per person for the ride and $100 USD a night for the room. At the hotel, they charged us $138 USD per night, and the taxi fare came to $160 USD. We went into the room, immediately turned around, and asked for a refund. The front desk guy called someone to check, maybe the taxi driver, who I suspect was working with him. They only refunded one night. We took a $3 USD Uber to Fairfield by Marriot, where the room was $101 USD a night.

The room was okay, and the price was cheap, so it wasn’t bad exactly. Still, the atmosphere wasn’t nice. The TV by reception was in a very cold area, and the air conditioner was surprisingly loud. We had to wait to get towels, the street noise came through pretty loudly, and the swimming pool was pretty disgusting. It could be nicer.

I was happy I booked this hostel. The staff were really nice, it was very clean, and there was coffee in the lobby. The showers had hot water too. There’s no air conditioning in the rooms, so they get hot, but I was still glad to stay here.

When our flight was cancelled at the airport because of hurricane Beryl 2024, airport staff said they’d get us a taxi to a nearby hotel. GO Shuttle quoted $124.00 dollars each way for eight people, saying it would be cheaper to pay for the ride there and back. Ikaro hotel then charged us 320 per night, even though a room booked online is about 40 dollars. I believe the taxi people work with the hotel and tell them tourists are being dropped off, then the hotel clerk charges more. I later learned it happened to three other couples at the hotel too. I also found out you shouldn’t pay in advance for anything, especially taxi rides. I called to check whether the reservation was valid, and they said my ticket was invalid, so I was out $124 plus the extra hotel fees. Use the Uber app for a taxi or book a hotel online, and definitely don’t pay cash, since you can’t dispute it later.
