My room was in awful shape, and the photos online didn't match it or my travel companions' room. There were plenty of other problems too, but these give you an idea. There was a puddle beside the bed, which I wiped up with my only hand towel. We had no washcloths, just one ragged bath towel, and only a thin sheet on each bed, with no blankets in the room. The toilet wouldn't flush, and my companions' toilet didn't work either. The curtain rod and bracket came down when I barely touched the curtain. The window looked out onto something like a junkyard, as shown in my photo. There was no breakfast, despite the sign saying “free breakfast.” The bathroom outlet was hanging out with its wires exposed, also shown in a photo. I added pictures of the outlet and the view from the hotel room window. I could post more, but I think the condition of the hotel is clear enough.

I felt unsafe at this hotel. There's only one way in and out, through two barred gates controlled by the front desk manager. The rest of the property is enclosed by a wall over 10 feet high with razor wire on top. During my stay, two hooded men who weren't guests came into the common area and joined a third man who was already there. They talked among themselves, and I heard them say my name. One gestured for me to come over. They were sitting around a circular table on the patio with several smartphones laid out on it. I went to the manager and asked him to unlock the front door so I could leave. He smiled and said, “leave no.” I urgently repeated that I wanted to go. He smiled again and said he didn't speak English. For several minutes I kept pleading with him to open the door, looking now and then to see if the hooded men had left the table. The man who had already been staying at the hotel got up and awkwardly came over to us at the desk. He said, “I am going to get a beer,” then disappeared into the rooms area. A couple of minutes later he came back without a beer, approached me awkwardly, said nothing, and returned to the common area. Then a woman appeared on the other side of the gated doors. I told her the manager was refusing to let me out. Another woman came from inside to meet her, and the manager opened the gate for her. I slipped in behind her to the space between the gates. The manager opened the second gate and the woman left, but the woman outside pushed it shut before I could get out. I told the woman outside that I was trying to leave. She was young, pale-skinned, wearing a green Luigi hat and colored contacts. She asked my name twice, and I truthfully said, “Logan.” The door unlocked, and I left immediately. Some hours later, I came back with local police to collect my belongings and check out. The police said the hooded men had told a different story, that I'd been drinking beer with them and was a “sore loser.” The police called this “serious.” The manager wouldn't unlock the door for a surprisingly long time, but the police eventually persuaded him, and I got my things. After that, I had a difficult night trying to find a hotel with an open room. In the end, I slept on the beach with my Gracie Barra bag for a pillow. I can't imagine dealing with this with a partner or if I were less able to defend myself. Cancun Police Incident Number 9981988715

The location is really convenient and quiet, within walking distance of ADO, the supermarket, and lots of shops on and near the main street. The room was clean, there's a full kitchen in the lobby for guests, and the staff were friendly and very attentive. I look forward to staying here again. Thank you!

Really bad night. The place was very dirty and loud.

I booked this affordable place in Cancun with breakfast included, and it was nice.
