The warm, helpful staff made a real difference throughout my stay. Hotel Sotavento in Cancun feels peaceful and close to nature, with greenery and lovely plants all around the property. Walking through the garden areas was calming. I enjoyed the relaxed, more authentic atmosphere, especially compared with the large, crowded resorts nearby. It was a lovely stay, and I’d happily come back. Definitely five out of five for me.

The food was really good, and the prices were decent. The staff were also super nice and switched our room right away when we told the front desk what had happened. But I couldn’t get past the experience in Room G-4. Around 3 a.m., my sister turned off her flashlight, and I caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of my eye. When she turned it back on, there was nothing there, so I tried to ignore it and sleep. Then I felt something trying to snuggle up beside me. I thought it was my husband, but he was already asleep next to me. I panicked and got him to turn on the light. We were both shocked to see someone or something in the room with us. Then we found bed bugs on the sheets. We asked for the sheets to be changed ASAP, but I still couldn’t shake the feeling. The whole thing was just too much. Room G-4? No thanks.

I’ve been here for the past two weeks and am really glad I picked this place. It’s quiet and peaceful, with super comfortable beds and air conditioning.

A decent location and a good room for the price, especially for a quick overnight stop. The paths are pretty dark, there’s no elevator, and they didn’t have any first aid when I asked. Luckily, a pharmacy was only a quick two-minute walk away.

There were only two towels in the room, and that was it. The shower leaked across the floor, but there wasn’t even a bath mat. Our AC wasn’t working properly. They sent a maintenance man, who said it was fine, and when we asked for a fan the hotel said they didn’t have one. Very basic place. We won’t stay here again.
